How the credit card calculator works
Each month, estimated interest equals the opening balance × APR ÷ 12. The payment first covers that interest, and the remainder reduces principal.
Card issuers may use daily balances and separate APR categories, so compare the estimate with your statement.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the balances, rates, payments, and dates from your latest statements.
- Review optional assumptions, then compare the primary result and total cost.
- Open the schedule to verify the payoff path before printing or saving a PDF.
Assumptions and limitations
- No new purchases, cash advances, annual fees, late fees, or penalty APR are added.
- The entered introductory APR applies for exactly the selected number of payments, then the regular APR begins.
- Payments occur monthly and the last payment is reduced to the exact amount due.

Worked example
Example: $10,000 at 24% APR
Paying $500 each month on a $10,000 balance at 24% APR takes about 26 months.
Estimated interest is about $2,898.73. A 12-payment 0% introductory period would reduce the modeled interest substantially.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I pay on my credit card?
Paying more than the minimum usually shortens the payoff and lowers interest. Use target mode to estimate a fixed payment for a chosen period.
Does a 0% offer eliminate all costs?
No. A transfer fee may be added to the balance, and the regular APR applies after the introductory period ends.
Why can my statement interest differ?
Issuers commonly use daily balances and may apply different APRs to purchases, transfers, and cash advances.
