How to use this Specific Impulse Calculator 🤔
- There are input fields for Effective exhaust velocity \((u)\), Acceleration due to gravity \((g)\), and Specific Impulse \((I𝗌𝗉)\). Enter any two inputs and click on Calculate button.
- The calculator uses the \( I_{𝗌𝗉} = \frac{ u }{ g } \) formula, substitues given values, and calcuates the missing value(s).
- A missing value is calcuated and displayed in the input field. Also, the caculation is displayed under the input section.
What is Specific Impulse?
Specific impulse is a measure of the efficiency of a rocket or jet engine. It represents how much thrust is produced per unit of propellant consumed, indicating how effectively the engine uses fuel. The higher the specific impulse, the more efficient the engine.
Calculating Specific Impulse
Specific impulse (Isp) can be calculated using the formula:
\( I_{sp} = \frac{ u }{ g } \).
In this formula, the parameters are defined as follows:
- u: The exhaust velocity of the propellant, or the speed at which the gas exits the engine, measured in meters per second (m/s).
- g: The acceleration due to gravity, typically taken as 9.8 m/s².
